2023 Scottish Classic Table Tennis Championships
This year's Scottish Sandpaper Championships will be held on Sunday 17th December 2023, at Ward Road Gym, Dundee. This year, we also have a Classic Hardbat event, so we are now the Scottish Classic Table Tennis Championships. This is a social competition, albeit with a competitive side, so all standards and ages are welcome.
Numbers are restricted, and entries are first come, first served - so get yours in quickly. Entry forms will be emailed to all previous participants, or can be downloaded here.

Dave Goddard Classic (hardbat, Open to all players)
Prizes will be awarded to the winner and runner-up in each event. There will also be awards for the Top Junior and the Top Senior on the day.
Entry fee: £15 for either Sandpaper events or Hardbat event;
or £22 to enter both Sandpaper and Hardbat.

* The Ronnie Turnbull Quaich Sandpaper event is restricted to players who are permanently resident in Scotland; or are of Scottish birth or parentage. Players with a strong Scottish connection may be admitted, at the discretion of the Organisers.
Event Information
All standards of player are welcome. Tea and coffee will be available on the mezzanine viewing gallery, and the Gym is near enough to the City Centre shops for some last minute Christmas shopping.
The planned format of the Sandpaper events is:

Sanwei bats will be provided for play. Swap bats when you swap ends.

Maximum of 30 players; places available on a first-come first-served basis.

Wild card(s) may be available, at the Organisers' discretion.

Matches are best-of-3 sets to 15 points (sudden death). Each player may serve one "double point ball" during the match.

The Groups for the Sandpaper events will be combined. Up to six round robin groups of five players, top 3 in each group go forward to the main knock-out **.

Main knock-out: Play-offs to reduce pool to 16 players, R16, QF, SF and Final.

Any Scottish player who loses to a non-Scot in the main knock-out out will progress to the RTQ double-elimination knock-out. If the Open Sandpaper is won by a Scottish player, they also win the RTQ. If the runner-up of the Open Sandpaper is Scottish, they will play the winner of the double-elimination knock-out for the Ronnie Turnbull Quaich and/or a World Cup qualifying place.
The planned format of the Hardbat event is:

Bats must be 100% wood blade, with a rubber coating, and sponge-free. Players may use their own, or basic hardbats will be available on loan or to buy on the day.

Maximum of 36 players; places available on a first-come first-served basis.

Wild card(s) may be available, at the Organisers' discretion.

Matches are the best-of-3 sets to 21 points, alternating service every 5 points.

Up to six round robin groups of six players, top 3 in each group go forward to the main knock-out**.

Main knock-out: Play-offs to reduce pool to 16 players, R16, QF, SF and Final.

Ward Road Gym
Ward Road Gym is in central Dundee, 12 minutes walk from Dundee Railway Station, and 3 minutes' walk from the Bell Street pay-on-foot car park.
The Gym has changing rooms with showers and a viewing mezzanine. Tea and coffee facilities are available.

Dundee is on the east coast of Scotland, approximately 60 miles North of Edinburgh. Dundee Rail Station is on the Main East Coast Rail line (London-Edinburgh-Dundee-Aberdeen), and also has a direct rail link to central Glasgow. There are a range of hotels in Dundee - the nearest to Ward Road Gym is the Travelodge Dundee Central which is a short walk to Ward Road Gym, and has free car parking.
