UK Open Sandpaper Tournament 2022

We have missed our trips to various Ping Pong events over the last couple of years, due initially to Covid-19, and now to Matchroom pulling out of promoting the WCPP.  We hope that International Ping Pong will return soon, if we keep the sport active.

We are therefore happy to announce that we are hosting an Open Sandpaper Table Tennis event at St Neots Regional Table Tennis Centre, Cambridgeshire, England, on Sunday 22nd May 2022. Come along and join us, whether you're a social or a league TT player looking for something a bit different, a Hardbat afficionado, a Sandpaper specialist, or anything in between. Players from overseas are welcome.
Entry is £25 by cheque or PayPal (see entry form for details).
If you need to pay using a different method, please contact Juliet to discuss.
The anticipated prize fund is £500.
- £250 Winner
- £90 Runner-up
- £40 each semi-finalist
- £20 each quarter-finalist
Amounts may be reduced if there is a shortfall in player numbers, or increased if we exceed our target entry.
In addition, DHS-TT.UK are providing a prize voucher of up to £400 towards a tailored bat for the winner, and further prize vouchers for the rest of the top 4 players.
Sanwei sandpaper bats will be used. Round Robin groups in the morning, with main knockout and consolation event in the afternoon.
The format of the event will be:
  • Places available on a first-come first-served basis.
  • Wild card(s) may be available, at the Organisers' discretion.
  • Up to six round robin groups, top 4 in each group go forward*.  Each match is the best-of-3 sets, each first to 15 points.  Each player may serve one "double point ball" during the match.
  • Intermediate round(s) to reduce pool to 16 players.
  • Knock out R16, QFs and SFs.
  • Best-of-5 set Final.  Each player may serve two "double point balls" during the match, but not in the same set.
All levels of player are welcome.
For full rules, see the entry form.
This information is also on Facebook.
*  There may be a plate event for remaining players, if sufficient interest.
The event format may be varied depending on the number of entries and any COVID government restrictions in place at the time.
